UMKC Chamber Singers will perform music from the classical era in the Bloch Auditorium in the Nelson-Atkins Museum. UMKC’s musicology faculty will share information about the repertoire and an art historian will talk about visual art from the region and time period as well. After the performance, docents will be stationed throughout the European art collection to speak about the visual art. This event runs concurrently to the happy hour in the Bloch lobby.

The Orchestra of the International Center for Music at Park University will present its final concert of the season at the charming Chapel on campus in Parkville, Missouri. The program will be under the direction of guest conductor Barbara Yahr, now in her twentieth year as music director of the Greenwich Village Orchestra of New York, and who is making a repeat appearance with the ICM Orchestra.
The Orchestra of the International Center for Music will present its annual Valentine’s concert at the gorgeous Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel at Park University. The program will be under the direction of guest conductor Jason Seber, known for his inviting and engaging approach on and off the podium.

Frequently mentioned in the top ten greatest symphonies ever written, Mahler’s Ninth is the expression of Mahler’s love for the earth, nature, and enjoying all it offers before death comes. Though not his last work, it is described as a peaceful farewell as Mahler contends with his own mortality during its writing.

Firelands Symphony Orchestra featuring guest artist Steven Greenman, violin
The orchestra is joined by guest violinist Steven Greenman, a soulful and virtuosic performer of Klezmer and Eastern European folk music. The program will be a mixture of Greenman’s own compositions, as well as compositions by Brahms, Enesco, and David Rubinoff. An added highlight is music from John Williams’ adaptation for the movie version of Fiddler on the Roof, which earned him his first Oscar.

The FSO Chorale and chamber orchestra are joined by Kirsten Kunkle, soprano and the Heidelberg University Concert Choir to perform Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living. The five movements form a narrative just as much for the living, and their own struggle with pain and sorrow, as for the dead. This relatively new major choral work features themes of rest and mercy, turmoil, deliverance, peace, and imagery inspired by the view of our planet from the Hubble Telescope.

In the spring of 2024, Toledo will be in the direct viewing path of a total solar eclipse. To celebrate this phenomenon, the Toledo Symphony has commissioned ADJ•ective New Music – a composers’ collective with ties to Toledo – to compose a suite of new planets. Paired with Gustav Holst’s Planets with stunning visuals from KV 265, this program explores both the scientific mysteries of space and our planets and the human imaginationof what lies beyond our world.

Highlighting the concert will be the dual performance by the orchestra and chorale of Poulenc’s Gloria, known for its rich, flowing harmonies, both dark and whimsical. The orchestra also performs the music of Saint-Saëns, Berlioz, Debussy, as well as Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld Overture, which includes the famous can-can!

Chip Davis, founder and creator of Mannheim Steamroller, will celebrate over 35 Years of his annual Christmas concert tour, making it the longest running concert tour in the entertainment industry! Davis said the hallmark tour will begin on November 14th, 2023 and run through December 30th, 2023. Two traveling ensembles will hold performances in cities across the country.
